To be eligible for the Efficiency Nova Scotia program you must live here.
ThermalWise does not provide Home Energy Assessments in Cape Breton.
ThermalWise also provides Home Energy Assessments in New Brunswick and Newfoundland according their provincial and federal guidelines.

The following homes are eligible in Nova Scotia:
Single-family homes
Semi-detached homes (i.e. side by side duplexes)
Side-by-side row homes (i.e. townhouses)
Year-round cottages
Mobile homes on a permanent foundation
Homes with a secondary unit
Multi-Unit Residential Buildings, 6 units or less
Secondary homes are eligible for the provincial Home Energy Assessment (HEA) rebate program but not the Federal Greener Homes grant or loan program.

New homes constructed under 6 months ago are not eligible for the program.

This includes siding and drywall.

For upgrades to be eligible for the Greener Homes grant and Efficiency Nova Scotia's Home Energy Assessment program, retrofit purchases and installation must take place after the date of the initial home energy assessment.
YOUR STEPS TO A MORE EFFICIENT HOME
STEP 1
If your home is eligible, book your pre-retro fit Home Energy Assessment with ThermalWise.
STEP 2
One of our energy advisors will come to your home and give you your custom recommendations.
STEP 3
Apply to the Canada Greener Homes interest free loan using the NRCan file number assigned to your home at your initial assessment.
STEP 4
Plan your upgrades according to your recommendations and complete within 12 months.
STEP 5
Book your post-retro fit assessment with ThermalWise to assess the changes.
STEP 6
Receive your loan.

Your home energy assessment will take 2 hours. You can find out more about how to prepare here.
Your initial cost for an energy assessment is $199.00. If you complete at least one recommendation upgrade you will be reimbursed $100 through the Canada Greener Home grant program.

Your energy advisor will email or mail your results within 2 weeks.

Receipts must be collected for all work completed both by a contractor or for materials used if completed by the homeowner.
Receipts must show the work has been paid for in full at the time of the final assessment and must meet Efficiency Nova Scotia's Invoice Guidelines on page 23 of the HEA rebate guide.
If Windows or Doors are being upgraded, leave stickers on the window until the final assessment. Invoices must list individual windows installed.
Take photographs of any upgrades that may be hidden at the time of the final assessment, like insulation upgrades.
Keep receipts for seven years for the federal Greener Homes program.

Due to the increased demand for Home Energy Assessments caused by the Canada Greener Homes grant program there are significant wait times. These wait times vary between providers.

The Canada Greener Homes Loan is an interest-free loan of up to $40,000 with a repayment term of 10 years, open to homeowners who have completed an eligible pre-retrofit assessment. The loan is currently available towards eligible efficiency upgrades recommended in the Renovation Upgrade Report. You can begin an application here.
The NRCan file number assigned to your home at the time of the initial assessment can be used to apply through the Canada Greener Homes loan. Your assessment report file will be uploaded to the loan portal within 30 days of your initial assessment appointment.

Homeowners are eligible for the Greener Homes interest-free loan program if they have completed a pre-retrofit home energy assessment for a home that is their primary residence. It is recommended you apply to the loan program prior to starting upgrades.
