AM I ELIGIBLE?

If you are a Canadian Citizen and homeowner you qualify for the Greener Homes Grant Initiative. Here are some questions we will have for you:

  • Each province has a different process to apply for the Greener Homes Grant. You are in the right place if you live in Newfoundland.

    ThermalWise also provides Home Energy Assessments in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia according their provincial and federal guidelines.

  • We service the Avalon and surrounding areas on a regular basis.

    We service the following areas on a limited basis (subject to change):

    • Bonavista – Burin – Trinity

    • Coast of Bays – Central – Norte Dame

    • Long Range Mountains – West Coast

    Please reach out to us for the most up to date service areas and route schedule. 

  • You must be a Canadian homeowner with proof that your home is your primary residence. The Canada Greener Homes Initiative is not for landlords renting property.

  • The following are eligible for the Green Homes Grant:

    • Single or semi-detached house

    • Mobile home on a permanent foundation

    • Permanently moored floating home

    • Row house

    • Townhouse

    • Mixed-used building (residential portion only)

    • A home or building with a secondary suite or apartment

    • A multi-unit residential building (three storeys or less with a footage of 600m2 or less)

    • Part of a cooperative

  • New homes constructed under 6 months are not eligible for the program.

  • An automated heating system as a furnace or electric heat.

    Interior finishes such as drywall and panelling need to be in place.

    Exterior finishes such as siding, windows, and doors need to be in place.

    For upgrades to be eligible for the Canada Greener Homes Initiative ThermalWise must provide a pre-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation before any work begins.

  • The fee for the pre-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation is $599 + HST and is due at the time of the evaluation.

    The fee for the post-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation is $199 + HST and will be collected at the time of the post-retrofit evaluation.

    These payments can be made via credit card or interac at the time of the evaluation. We do not accept cash or cheque.

    You will be eligible for reimbursement of $600 total towards the cost of the evaluations, provided you complete the full process of the Greener Homes program. Both pre- and post-retrofit evaluations are required under the initiative for reimbursement. You will need to complete at least one of the retrofits that is both eligible and recommended by your energy advisor in their report in order to be reimbursed. You will not be reimbursed for the pre-retrofit evaluation unless you continue through the full Greener Homes Grant process.

  • Roughly 2 hours, depending on the size of your home.

  • Your energy advisor will email or mail your results within 2 weeks.

  • Due to the increased demand for Home Energy Assessments caused by the Canada Greener Homes grant program there are significant wait times. These wait times vary between providers.
