LEED® Canada for Homes

LEED Canada for Homes is an environmental certification program for homes launched in Canada by the Canada Green Building Council, a non-governmental not-for-profit organization. The aim of the program is to transform the residential construction industry by recognizing the best environmental achievements.

Licensed by the Canada Green Building Council as a LEED for Homes Provider, ThermalWise offers LEED Canada for Homes services throughout Atlantic Canada. We currently have Green Raters in every province in Atlantic Canada.

Commercial Energy Audits

ThermalWise delivers affordable energy audits to the small commercial and institutional sectors in Atlantic Canada. Our team of energy management professionals helps clients understand how energy is being used in buildings and identifies cost-effective energy saving measures.

ThermalWise also helps organizations track and assess energy consumption across their entire portfolio of buildings. We use energy benchmarking tools to help you compare your buildings’ performance to similar buildings and to easily identify under-performing buildings that may warrant a more in-depth audit.

Passive House Services

ThermalWise offers Passive House services to owners, home designers and builders. Our Passive House services included detailed energy modelling with the Passive House Planning Package software. ThermalWise will also work closely with the project team through the construction phase ensuring that Passive House goals are met. We will also submit data and energy modelling for Passive House certification.

More generally, ThermalWise can use the Passive House Planning Package to help owners, designers and builders to refine house plans to optimize costs in terms of energy savings.

Thermal Imaging

Thermal imaging is a very useful tool for diagnosing a number of building problems. ThermalWise offers comprehensive thermal imaging evaluation services to home and building owners.

Our whole house thermography service includes a site visit where thermal images are taken from both the inside and outside of the house. ThermalWise uses a blower door to depressurize the house to further increase the effectiveness of the thermal imaging evaluation. Our whole house thermal imaging evaluation costs $250 plus HST. Travel charges may apply depending upon location.

ThermalWise also provides shorter, single-problem diagnostic thermal imaging services as well as more intensive forensic thermal imaging services. Prices for these services vary by job. Please contact us to learn more.

Case Study Development

ThermalWise’s Case Study Development service combines our experience in energy modelling, green communication and education, and our experience developing and designing customized payback analyses.

We are able to help your company gather the necessary technical information and combine it with testimonials from customers (if desired) to develop and design unique and effective case studies that illustrate the benefits of your energy-efficient and green building products or services.

Payback Analysis

Homeowners are becoming increasingly concerned about energy efficiency in the home. This concern is a response to both the rising cost of energy and increased concern over greenhouse gas emissions and climate change.

Increased efficiencies, however, are measured against the associated increase in the initial system cost. This balancing act is at the centre of homeowners’ decisions about upgrades.

ThermalWise specializes in helping contractors and developers assess, communicate and market the payback of HVAC equipment and other renewable energy technologies. We are able to customize our payback analysis to factor in the specifics of your clients’ homes and the financing options that are available to them.

ThermalWise also provides these services directly to homeowners.

Plan Review

Energy efficiency starts at the design phase. ThermalWise works with architects and builders to create customized energy models that allow the project team to experiment before the building begins. This way project teams are able to get a better sense of how much energy their houses will consume and what upgrades can be incorporated to minimize energy consumption.

Renewable Energy Assessment

With energy prices rising, many homeowners are turning to energy-efficient technologies to help minimize the costs and negative environmental impacts associated with conventional home-energy systems. This transition can be a challenging one, however. With mixed messages from suppliers and installers and ambitious promises about cost savings, it is easy for homeowners to become confused.
