Location: Tatamagouche, NS
Project Description: This home demonstrates an interesting combination of construction methods. Built by the owners, the home is balloon-framed with rough-sawn FSC-certified lumber. The framing cavities have been filled with cellulose insulation and straw has been laid on-edge inside of the framed exterior walls. This construction method results in a very well-insulated building envelope. The home has been designed to collect rainwater for use as potable water inside and also features a solar thermal panel to pre-heat domestic hot water. ThermalWise is providing LEED for Homes services for this project.
