Jordan MacDonald – President
Halifax, NS
Jordan is a founding director of ThermalWise. Jordan previously worked as the Director of Residential Services at Strath Environmental Consulting Inc. While at Strath, Jordan developed a number of green building services, including renewable energy assessments, case study development and payback analysis services. Jordan has worked extensively with the EnerGuide rating system and the related residential energy assessment services and software. He has researched and produced education materials about residential energy efficiency and has developed and conducted energy-efficiency workshops for homeowners, retailers and builders. Jordan is a LEED for Homes Faculty Member of the Canada Green Building Council.
Laura Hayes – NSYCC Crew Member
Halifax, NS
Laura is a third year student attending Dalhousie University, studying environmental engineering. This summer, Laura will be working with ThermalWise as a Nova Scotia Youth Conservation Corps crew member. She will be working on the Atlantic Green Building website project. She is very passionate about solving environmental issues, specifically issues of conservation of scarce resources. She hopes to be able to work on projects concerning renewable energy and reclaimed wastewater in her future. In her spare time, she enjoys snowboarding, playing the guitar and practicing yoga.
Fin MacDonald – NSYCC Crew Member
Halifax, NS
Fin MacDonald is an Energy Sustainability Engineering Technology student at the Nova Scotia Community College in Middleton, NS. His interests lie in renewable energy systems, green building construction and operations, and energy auditing. He has recently received his LEED Green Associate certification. Prior to joining ThermalWise he worked designing and installing solar monitoring systems. In his free time he enjoys camping and music. Fin is working with ThermalWise as a Nova Scotia Youth Conservation Corps crew member. He will be working on the Atlantic Green Building website project.
Sharon Cave – Green Rater
St. John’s, NL
Sharon has always had a keen interest in sustainability and environmental issues. She has chaired the Oceans Caucus of the Newfoundland and Labrador Environmental Network and has worked with the Newfoundland and Labrador Conservation Corps. Sharon is an Architectural Technologist with extensive experience in sustainable and energy-efficient building practices. She has experience performing daylighting and views calculations and she has conducted many onsite building assembly inspections. Sharon has worked on an extensive array of projects that include custom residential projects as well as $60-million hospital projects.
Yonatan Strauch – Green Rater
Sackville, NB
Yonatan is a sustainability professional based in Sackville, NB. He has a wide range of experience and training, concentrated in technical knowledge and research. Yonatan received a Masters in Industrial Technology from Appalachian State University for his research work testing technologies for affordable solar greenhouses. He was the recipient of over $80,000 of EPA P3 National Student Sustainable Design funding for this work. Yonatan has extensive knowledge and experience with green building. He has completed a semester in Ecological and Solar Design at the Ecosa Institute in Prescott, AZ, and has worked as a carpenter’s assistant on a number of green building projects. Yonatan was a founding member of the Mount Allison University Sustainable Residence Initiative.
Ole Hammarlund – Green Rater
Charlottetown, PEI
Throughout his career Ole has maintained a balance between theoretical and practical skills. After becoming a carpenter journeyman in Denmark, Ole began training as an architect at MIT. He graduated in 1969 and began undertaking design work with various firms. At that time he also operated a small design/build comany. In 1974 Ole partnered with David Bergmark to form Solsearch Architects, specifically to design and build the PEI Ark. This historical project laid the groundwork for Ole’s future work in the fields of sustainable design and energy efficiency. Ole has participated in many research and development projects funded by EMR, CMHC, NRC and SRC. Ole has extensive experience in the renovation and recycling of older structures and has received seven awards in this area from the PEI Museum and Heritage Foundations, as well as from CMHC.
Bryan MacDonald – Economist
Fredericton, NB
Bryan MacDonald is a founding director of ThermalWise. He is an economist and a former Assistant Deputy Minister in charge of New Brunswick Department of Finance’s Treasury Division. Over the course of Bryan’s career he gained experience in the following areas: economic forecasting and cost benefit analysis, electric utility restructuring and asset sales, public-private partnerships, capital markets, tax policy and business management. Bryan contributes to ThermalWise’s cost benefit and payback analysis services.
